The alphabet 

In 2018, the idea of ​​an alphabet started. I came up with the idea of ​​making a book where I could focus on all the problems of the world that are cornerns children. It was going to become a book that was going to raise money for the benefit of Save the Children.

The book was inspired by Edward Gorey, who created his own alphabet, though in a different style. His alphabet was aimed at children's audiences, and mine should be for adults. Mine should be based on more political themes, and be a humanistic piece of art that I could not put use of only one canvas for - I should use 26.

The alphabet was created to both great indignation and amazement, but no spectator could deny that it affected them I in someway. It turned into a harsh 1st alphabet, but indicative about the time. 

The book was published by the publisher Proportion and had its debut at my solo exhibition, down by Odense Atrium, where I sold over 150 books. 

All the money was donated to Save The Children because I wanted to make a statement with the book that art could make a difference. The whole project around the first alphabet changed my way of dealing with themes with my work afterwards. It helped me see things a little less black and white. 

But it should turn out that there should not be just one alphabet. I started working with Line in mid-2019 while I was working in Berlin. She stumbled upon my original alphabet, and it was not long before she called me up and and pitched the idea of making it more than what I already made it into. I sat and listen to the idea and most honestly admit that I was very touched. She wanted me to see the meaning of making an alphabeat for each theme I work on for each year.  

Here was one of my best works, which now gets the opportunity to spread its wings, and it gives me the opportunity to explore other aspects of my art, as well as my worldview. 

It has now been decided that I will make an alphabet for each coming year, which will go hand in hand with the themes of my works. 

The first alphabet from 2018 has no title, but goes under the original alphabet. It is not yet made on canvases, but is made as 26 separate watercolors mounted on a wood board. 

Nr. 2 alphabet is called ”Circus alphabet”, and is about the theme circus which my first exhibition in Gallery Nijenkamp is about. It's a personal story about my previous drug addiction, and the hole I was in, when a needle found its way into my arm. The circus alphabet represents the year 2020.   

Nr. 3 alphabet is called ”Disney alphabet”, and will explore what a TV tyranny can do to an entire generation.  I worked a lot with the Disney universe in 2019, an therefore the alphabet will also represent the year  2019.

Nr. 4 alphabet will be called ”Animal Farm alphabet”, and will be based on next year's solo exhibition in Galleri Nijenkamp. More will be published.  
This alphabet will naturally be based on the year 2021.

I look forward to exploring the upcoming alphabets and especially to getting honest and tough feedback from my gallery owner.
